SYMPTOMS IT IS WISE NOT TO IGNORE: BLEEDING
Many people experience a form of internal bleeding in some form or other, most commonly form the mouth or nose, but occasionally as blood in the stools. If bright red blood is found in the stools, it is always a cause for concern, though the problem may not be as serious as one might imagine. Bright red blood found in a stool is often a sign that you have a haemorrhoid problem and steps can be taken to remedy this. Dark red blood mixed in with a stool, however, is a more serious matter and may signify intestinal polyps or other abnormalities, including cancer of the colon or rectum.
As a rule of thumb, if any internal bleeding is noticed through the stools, you should seek immediate medical attention to ascertain the cause.
Other types of bleeding may also warrant medical attention. Recurring nose bleeds, for example, experienced a few times a week or more, could be a symptom of high blood pressure or a sign of particular allergies, in which case a medical diagnosis is also necessary.
Bleeding gums may also signal a potential medical concern and could be a warning of periodontal disease, or, in smokers, an early sign of oral cancer. If the bleeding is experienced consistently, a visit to your local doctor is imperative. Do not delay because the condition is sporadic.
